Amy Cochrane has established herself as an important singer in the worlds of opera, light opera and oratorio.
Critically acclaimed performances with the Madison Opera and Symphony Orchestra include Gilda in Rigoletto and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 2, "Lobgesang," both conducted by Maestro John DeMain, as well as Adina in The Elixir of Love. She received rave reviews in the Chicago Tribune for her Mabel in Pirates of Penzance with the Grant Park Symphony and Chorus, "delivering Mabel's difficult passages with effortless aplomb." While in Chicago, Ms. Cochrane also appeared frequently with Chicago's prestigious Music of the Baroque as soloist in La Calisto (Cavalli), The Fairy Queen (Purcell), "Machet die Tore Weit" (Telemann), Mass in G (Schubert), Missa Brevis (Mozart), The Coronation of Poppea, Vivaldi's Gloria and Bach's Cantata #140, "Wachet auf." A solo artist with Virginia Consort in Charlottesville, Ms. Cochrane has performed Mozart's Mass in C minor, Beethoven's Mass in C, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, and Faure's Requiem.
In 1998 Ms. Cochrane made her Carnegie Hall debut singing Gabriel and Eve for Haydn's Creation under the direction of John Rutter, and has since returned to Carnegie Hall to sing Creation again with Maestro Rutter. She was soloist for the New York premiere of The World of the Spirit, by Benjamin Britten, also in Carnegie Hall.
This year Ms. Cochrane will perform twice with Opera Roanoke. First, as Gilda and the 5 year old in a double bill featuring two works by Milton Granger, Talk Opera and The Proposal. Later in their season she will sing Fraschita in Carmen. Ms. Cochrane can also be heard this year as soloist for Rochester Oratorio Society's Messiah and Virginia Consorts' Carmina Burana.
Ms. Cochrane has also appeared with Cincinnati Opera, Opera Idaho, Oswego Opera, and Light Opera Works of Chicago, Dupage Opera Theater, Washington Concert Opera, Lake George Opera, Opera New England, Opera Company of Boston, Sarasota Opera, Natchez Opera Festival and the Ash Lawn/Highland Summer Festival. Ms. Cochrane received her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College and her graduate degree from New England Conservatory. Ms. Cochrane's home is now Geneseo, NY where her husband teaches at SUNY Geneseo.
Another interesting note: Amy can be heard as back up artist for A.C. Reed, a prominent Chicago Blues saxophonist, on his most recent recording, to be released last March, called "Junk Food". The song: "President plays the saxophone" on the Delmark Record Label. Its a real honor to be on this recording with some blues greats, including the late Albert Collins.
